THEATER WORKS IN BELLEVUE - Turning “West Side Story” into an “East Side” Story....by Jenna Johnson Some things you plan on… others just happen! For different reasons, the three of us (David Kline, Angela Rinaldi, and myself, Jenna Johnson) attended the auditions for BHS’ first musical production, “West Side Story” in ‘04. Dave was critical, Angela was determined and I, an innocent bystander that jumped in to pinch-hit as accompanist. Kismet! Our paths crossed and ever since we’ve teamed up to build what is the BHS drama program. Over the years we’ve experienced theater at the core of what it is… not a location or one set of people, but an ever-evolving collection of creativity and expression. The transition from the PAC to the current theater has challenged us to be innovative and has presented opportunities to grow the students in new and different ways. Our skills and experience + our passion for theater + amazing students + (let’s be honest) a LOT of coffee = a contagious program that has touched many lives for the better and continues to provide opportunities to satisfy the craving for an artistic outlet. We would like to suggest that our current theater presents an extraordinary opportunity to expand what we do by offering summertime programs to the community for all ages. “Theater:
An interdisciplinary study of fine and performing art that combines the expressive universal languages of emotion, imagination, movement and perspective to create an experience and connection with life.” ~ Jenna Johnson
